DIY Wedding Rings

Build Your Own Bands

At Nick Engel & Co., we’ll teach you how to create your own wedding bands by hand, making the rings you’ll exchange on your special day even more meaningful. Your wedding bands begin as simple bars of precious metal. You’ll choose the metal color and karat, band width, and profile before learning how to forge and shape the metal by hand. With guidance from our jewelers, you’ll gradually form each bar into a ring sized specifically for you—creating the foundation for the bands you’ll wear for years to come.

Once your bands have been formed, you’ll learn how to solder the seam closed using a jeweler’s torch, permanently joining the two ends of the metal. From there, you’ll file and refine your rings by hand, smoothing the seam and shaping each band until it has the profile and proportions you selected. We’ll be right beside you throughout the process, teaching you the same traditional techniques used at a jeweler’s bench.

The final step is all about bringing your rings to life. You’ll refine the surface and apply your chosen finish—from a classic high polish to a soft matte or a hand-hammered texture—before giving the bands their final inspection. By the end of your workshop, you’ll leave our studio with finished wedding bands made by your own hands, and a story behind them that is entirely your own.
